Smart TV for a smart price, April 30, 2017

OK, so right off the bat I will say "WOW". For about $170, I was not expecting a lot of bells and whistles, which is fine for a newly converted "exercise room". Upon delivery I was amazed at how light this TV was. While mounting on an articulating arm mount, I actually held it in place with one hand while I screwed it into the mounts. I was fearing it to be a "toy" quality because of it's light weight, but once I turned it on, I was pleasantly surprised. The colors are great, it is rich in features and has some very intuitive interface design qualities.
-- It's a smart TV, and happily the features work great. It connected to my WiFi with no problems and the connection is strong (meaning the internal adapter is well made). Previously I've had issues with Vizio TV's connecting, so this was a great relief. The integrated Roku works flawlessly and the set up was easy and intuitive. It quickly walked me though my Roku, Hulu, Amazon and other accounts.
Since this TV is in a room not served by cable or satellite, I connected it to a very handy Winegard FL-55YR FlatWave Indoor Antenna and VIOLA! I had 40 channels of OTA TV to augment my Roku.
The remote is small and is just like a normal Roku remote with the addition of channel and volume controls plus a handy mute button. And as a fantastic BONUS - by adding a thumb drive to the TV's rear USB port, you can pause live TV for up to 90 minutes. That was totally unexpected and a really nice surprise. (NOTE- they suggest a 16GB drive or less. Anything more won't extend the 90 minutes and would be wasted space).
Bottom line: Great little TV, lots of features; great interface, Smart TV that works -- and it has an earphone jack if you need it.

This review is from: TCL 32S305 32-Inch 720p Roku Smart LED TV (2017 Model) (Electronics)
Well i must say that I'm quite happy with the TV. I've been thinking of cutting the cord. Even tho I have cable, I don't think that I will have it for much longer. I've been watching all the free shows that you can get with this setup. I bought this for Sling and Netflix, still haven't made a account for ether. But as for the TV the picture is really good. Not as good as my last TV But for the price very nice. Settings in the TV are lacking, from what I can see there is NO WAY to set the IP address to static. So I had to change another device that I have had on the same LAN IP for over 5 yr that was a bit of a bummer. Sound on the TV also good however there are pointing straight down. I am trying to figure out how to add a wireless system to it. Because my wife is slowly going def in one ear. And it's harder for her to hear my TV then hers. Setup for the TV was way easy, It dose a step by step walk through and has small video to get to know your Roku. Knowing that I was going to get this TV I also bought a Roku Streaming Stick (3600R) for my wife's TV and earlier this week my Bro / roommate bought the same TV as I Streaming in 3 rooms is wonderful. The TV is lighter that I though it would be. but over all I'm quite happy with my TV. I do wish I knew what chip set the TV has in it. 2,3,4 probable not a 4 but it would be nice to know the specs would I buy this TV again? Yes, yes I would however I hope that when that time comes I will be able to get a 40 something or bigger. If your thinking of cutting the cord and or just want a good yet cheap in price TV this is the one I'm quite happy with .. I hope that this helps someone find what there looking for .... (( To whom that read this. May you have a wonderful day / night ))

totally impressed by this tv...I am not sure whether it is because our tv's were so old or because it is that good, but this tv has a great picture, super sharp (you have to adjust the settings as the picture is only so- so out of the box), action does not blur, the colors are simply amazing, and the detail is off the hook.....plus,...this has to be the easiest , most feature rich smart tv section I have ever seen. I have lots of experience with the Sony smart controls (and I did, until this tv, think that they were the best in the business), but this roku just blows Sony away. The whole thing is faster than my computer to bring things up and to search and scroll etc....it is seamless in it's controls from one to the next things, acquiring apps is a breeze, and it's integration with our home network is like they were designed for each other.
The setup is the easiest I have ever seen for an electronic entertainment product and covers all the bases and every concern. Further, their online web presence makes it easy to get your questions answer quickly and accurately. I am so happy with this TV, that I am going to get a second, larger one for our living room.
As for the common concerns that I read about online, the sound is pretty good for a tv..if you go into the settings and change it to the better quality, it will simulate a pretty fairs 2.1 stereo system. The picture quality is super sharp, and color is spot on (again..you have to fidget with the settings a little to get it to your liking..but that is also easy and intuitive).
This also has more ports than you will know what to do with...so all in all, many times better than I expected for this price.

Great idea but needa major work, July 8, 2017

Great picture. Sound is above average for an led and more so for a budget tv. The interface is a game changer! But.... It needs some work. Its buggy. Tons of crashes from different apps. Will freeze and reboot on its own. If you have Direct Now dont expect to use it on this tv as the 1080 models are not compatible. Sling works really well on here minus the crash ans freezing. Great idea just needs work on execution.

Video quality is mediocre, July 5, 2017

When I finally turned on the screen of this television I was disappointed. I'm not sure if it was just my TV but my 5 year old Dynex LED TV had better quality. I tried all different variations in the video settings and found only one setting that didn't make my eyes cringe. So I watched YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and played a DVD and Blue Ray through my XBOX and I just couldn't believe that the image wasn't better. I'm a cord-cutter so I didn't check the quality of regular cable or satellite TV.

So I returned this TV and as usual Amazon made it super easy with a UPS pickup. I bought a Vizio 32 inch running at 1080p instead of 720 and I really see the difference. Most people say the difference between a 720 and 1080 on a 32 inch isn't noticeable but to me it is.

The one thing I do have to say about the TCL television is the Roku interface is great. It's way better than the "smart tv" interface of the Vizio I bought. But I'm using my XBOX One to online multimedia access so it's not that big of a deal. The other thing I did appreciate about the TCL is that my Dell XPS 13 laptop was able to mirror display with no cables or setup on my laptop. My laptop was able to recognize my TV and wirelessly use it as a second screen. Unfortunately my Vizio cannot do this :(

stars REMOTE IS TERRIBLE, June 12, 2017

The picture is great and I enjoy the Roku interface. The remote, however, is ridiculous. There are no number keys to easily navigate channels. Let's say you want to go from channel 8 to channel 42 - you either use up or down buttons, or have to go through the onscreen setup. Remote is awful, and brings down an otherwise good product.
